Respite Services

What is Respite Services?

Respite supports you and your carer/s by giving carers short breaks from their caring responsibilities and providing you with time away from your family.

This NDIS service is suitable for those requiring support and assistance with care outside of the home for children and young people with a disability.

For participants, respite might mean:

  • joining a new group
  • having a short period out of home to try new things or develop new skills
  • support to engage in community activities, resulting in a break for carers.

For carers, taking some time off can help them better manage their own health and improve their wellbeing.

What Type of Support is Provided?

This care service can assist families and caregivers by providing flexible supports that are designed to improve family relationships whilst the family maintains responsibility for decisions in the young person’s life in partnership with the service provider.

The support and assistance available under this model may include:

  • regular family support
  • overnight support, transport
  • community activities
  • school hours care
  • school holiday support.

Currently using another NDIS provider? You can choose to change providers at any time, as long as you follow the notice periods in your service agreement.
