Fran Whiteley
My experience:
I am a qualified Developmental Educator and have worked in the disability sector for about 25 years. I have been developing systems and structures based on the restrictive practice and behaviour support framework for adults living with a disability. I also develop functional behaviour support plans, functional behaviour assessments data gathering assessments to develop PBS interventions and strategies based on hypothesized function of behaviour.
I also have a grad dip in Business Administration and grad cert in Family Dispute Resolution.
What inspired me to do what I do:
I have always been motivated to help people. My friend in school had multiple disabilities including being blind and I was inspired by how she took on the world day by day. She taught me some hands-on techniques of being her friend, like teaching her how to run. I wanted to help others to do the same.
Areas of expertise/interest:
- Supervising and educating practitioners
- Working with people living with disabilities and their families
- Working with mentors and support workers to ensure they understand how to work within a positive behaviour support framework
The most rewarding part of my role is….
Hearing how practitioners are positively impacting the lives of the people they work with by providing strong strategies for positive behaviour supports to reduce behaviours and increase the quality of people’s life
In my spare time…
I love riding my motorcycle, cruising and cycling.
