My experience:
I have been working in the disability sector for 15 years. During that time I worked as a Support Worker in the homeless and AOD area, and in Disability Employment Services in various roles. I have a Bachelor of Psychology, Grad Dip in Rehabilitation Counselling, Diploma in Sound Production and currently studying a Grad Dip in Counselling.
What inspires me to do what I do:
My father was injured in WWII, so I grew up with someone who experienced a disability. I have always had a strong desire to help and support people and tend to get on my soap box when I see gaps in services such as homelessness and mental health, as well as people being treated unequally.
The most rewarding part of my role is…
Being able to see someone achieve their goals, not matter how big or small. I live for those warm fuzzy moments.
A fun fact about me:
The diploma in sound production gives part of it away. I used to be a “rock chic” as a bass player in local bands. I still play a variety of instruments (jill of all trades, mistress of none). Also play and record my own music. Also addicted to Animal Crossing, Japanese Anime, plus slave to my Siberian huskies.
