Meet our customers, Janette and Jean - you can read more about their stories in our latest Impact Report.
Janette and Jean
Janette and Jean are Access4u customers who met each other at work through a previous provider in 1977. Back then, their friendship grew alongside their personal development. Together, the worked in the kitchen and made pottery.
In 1979, they undertook new roles, building electrical products and making card tables. Janette and Jean then moved in together for the first time in July 1994, into a house at Glandore.
In 2020, they transitioned into Supported Independent Living and moved into a housing property located in Dover Gardens, where they resided until 2023.
In their spare time, these ladies share a passion for 10-pin bowling. They are competition regulars and have hundreds (literally!) of trophies from their wins over the years. They are a force to be reckoned with at the bowling alley.
Janette has even managed to get her own bowling alley in her backyard for some weekend fun with Access4u staff.
Recent changes in support needs saw Jean move to live in Access4u housing at Daw Park with 3 other like-minded ladies, and following that, Jean moved to an Access4u home in Sturt that better suited her current needs and goals.
Whilst the ladies live in seperate accommodation now, they are still friends and bowling companions. They catch up for bowling on Mondays, and make sure to see each other for a coffee and chat whenever possible.
They still celebrate birthdays and Christmas together, and continue to enjoy bowling and the footy. They even continue to get along although they barrack for rival teams. And the competition between Crows and the Power continues!
Access4u staff love witnessing their amazing friendship, and love working with them individually, as well as together!
