Disability in Media: Podcasts We Recommend

Here at Access4u, we pride ourselves on a key practice principle of exploration. Exploration, in this case, means continually educating ourselves about the disability sector.

This not only includes upskilling to become better professionals and learning from each other and our customers - it also includes learning from those with lived experience outside our organisation. This involves consuming content across multiple mediums about disability.

So, we have put together this blog that spotlights some of our favourite podcasts that are created by or focus on real people with disability. See our list below....

ListenABLE

This podcast is hosted by none other than Dylan Alcott, with co-host Angus O'Loughlin.

They speak to lots of different people living with disability and challenge some of the common misconceptions about what it's like to have a disability. They ask many of the questions that others are afraid to!

Adaptefy

This podcast speaks with peple who defy what you thought was possible! Athletes, adventurers, influencers and entrepreneurs discuss how they have found ways to adapt and thrive while living with intensive physical and psychological challenges. Learn about some of the tools and equipment they use to achieve their goals, succeed, and find freedom.

Chronically Fully Sick

This is a podcast about chronic illness, hosted by self-named "Queens of Pain", Chloe Sargeant and Joanna Nilson.

They dicuss all the wondrous joys and justifiable woes of living life with unrelenting pain and fatigue, along with everything else life brings. Note: There is some strong language!

One in Five

This podcast explores some of the most complex issues facing people with disability today.

It features a range of experts including people with disability, researchers and people working in the disability sector who talk about what we can do to improve the lives of people with disability.

Boldly Me

In this series, Chloe Hayden, actor, disability advocate, motivational speaker, author, and influencer, interviews people that, just like her, are living life boldly and are unapologetically themselves.

Chloe invites people known for living their lives authentically and with confidence to join her and talk about anything from life lessons to advice for overcoming challenges and learning how to embrace your sparkle. Boldly Me will show you that the best way to live life is by fully embracing yourself.
