My experience:
I have worked in the disability sector for just over 6 years which I started in a Special School as an SSO whilst mentoring in my spare time. While working as an SSO I completed my Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education in 2021, which allowed me to join Access4u.
Currently, I work as a Developmental Educator and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner – where I have been able to apply my knowledge and previous experiences to this role which I am extremely passionate about!
What inspired you to do what you do…
I was inspired to work in this role as I wanted to work in an industry and organisation where I could support people from diverse backgrounds. In this role, I get to do just that whilst working with people and providing person-centred services and seeing my clients continue to learn new skills!
Areas of expertise/interest:
- Early intervention
- Trauma-informed practice
- Clients with complex needs
The most rewarding part of my role is…
I get to work closely with a range of clients and families to support people to engage in their local community, learn new skills and achieve their goals! I love when I get to be a part of my client’s journey and share their joy when they get to try something new.
What I do in my spare time:
In my free time, I enjoy playing social sports, particularly netball and soccer. I also love heading to the beach with friends during the summer time!
